Adjusting to the center
Although the first day at preschool can be exciting for your child, it can also be a time of anxiety for both child and parent. We encourage you to talk positively about your child’s teacher and the wonderful things they will experience at the school prior to the first day. Each classroom is equipped with a telephone so you can speak directly with your child’s teacher if necessary. It is important to be enthusiastic, encouraging and patient as your child adjusts in the first days of preschool.
Parent /Teacher Relations/Conferences and Visits
Parents and Guardians are the most significant adults in a child’s life. We strive to create mutual respect between parents and teachers – partnership for the benefit of the child. We encourage daily communication between parents and center staff, and will provide written communication as needed. The Carter Academy has an open door policy for parents. You are always welcome to join in the activities at any time of the school day. There will be various occasions when parents are specifically invited to individual classrooms for special events, and field trips.
There are parent/teacher conferences every 6 months at The Carter Academy. At these conferences, the lead teachers will review the daily schedule and talk about their lesson plans. We encourage all parents and guardians to participate when your schedule allows. A teacher may request a one-to-one conference with you as well is there is an area of concern about your child. Please view these conferences for what they are; a chance to make sure that your child is developing and behaving as they should in the preschool environment.
Communication Bulletin Boards
The parent/guardian bulletin boards are a communication vehicle that The Carter Academy uses to relay important messages concerning your child, changes in school policies, curriculum and upcoming events. Be sure to read them when you have an opportunity. There are bulletin boards in each classroom that display the daily schedule, the disciplinary policy, emergency telephone numbers, and other important information.
